Happy Monday everyone! Today on Style Talk, we’re going to be interviewing Fashion Blogger Alexis, ofALEXIISTHERESE! Not only does she have amazing style, but the photos taken by her husband, Bryanare absolutely captivating! Today we’ll discover what inspires her personal style, her favorite trends and how she got into blogging. Towards the end of the post we will also be featuring some looks Alexis has created for us using She + Sky items! Here’s what she has to say:
HOW DID YOU GET INTO BLOGGING?
I’ve always had such a passion for all things fashion & beauty and I wanted to find a way to express myself creatively. I’ve been following several other blogs/vlogs for years and I was really inspired to do the same! I have to admit, it’s pretty terrifying to put yourself out there, but I am so glad I did.
WHAT IS THE PRIMARY FOCUS OF YOUR BLOG?
I’m primarily focused on showcasing fashion in unconventional settings. I love expressing my sense of style through creative photographs taken by my husband, Bryan Castillo (@bryanadamc).
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR STYLE?
You can’t really put my style into a box, it’s kind of all over the place. The best way to describe my style is trendy with an edge. I like to follow current trends but I put my own unique, edgy twist to them. Whether it’s adding a sleek leather jacket, suede fringe bootie or a completely backless jumpsuit. Also, I love black. Too much.
WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR FAVORITE FASHION TRENDS AT THE MOMENT?
I absolutely LOVE the athleisure trend that is super hot at the moment. Sporty crop tops with mesh leggings, running shoes, a cap and a leather jacket…doesn’t get any better than that! I hope this trend sticks around for a while because it’s so comfortable!
FASHION CAN OFTEN BE INFLUENCED BY THE ENVIRONMENT WE LIVE IN. DESCRIBE HOW IT LOOKS WHERE YOU LIVE AND THE TYPE OF WEATHER YOU EXPERIENCE THERE. DO YOU THINK THIS IMPACTS YOUR STYLE? HOW?
I live in the beautiful desert of Tucson, Arizona where 90% of the year it is HOT. The environment definitely impacts my style as we only really have a month or so of wearing coats and boots! Aside from the climate, the desert definitely impacts my style as well. I love to style outfits with a southwestern or bohemian vibe in mind.

WHICH LOOK DO YOU LOVE? LET US KNOW YOUR FAVORITE IN THE COMMENTS
A huge thank you to Alexis fromALEXIISTHERESE, for letting us feature her today. We enjoyed getting to know a little more about her and hope you did as well!
Make sure you head on over to Alexis’s blog & social media to see some of her other stunning looks!
Instead of a pop of color, try a pop of plaid! If you’re not that comfortable with wearing bolder prints like plaid, this is a fantastic way to gradually incorporate it into your look!
Use contrasting materials to accent your plaid. These fabrics can create a well balanced design that beautifully showcases both elements.
Stay warm & cozy this Fall with a plaid poncho. Style it open like a cardigan or wrap it around for a snug fashionable look!
Swap out your go-to pieces for some black & white plaid. Black & white is classic and timeless, plus it pairs well with every color!
One great thing about multicolor plaid is that it’s often multifunctional as well. Use it as the focal point & pair it with neutrals or style it with one or more of it’s complimentary colors for a rich autumn look!
Did you miss out on the velvet trend last time around? Well don’t worry, soon we’ll be seeing a lot more of it. Velvet is anticipated to be one of the hottest trends this Fall, and honestly we couldn’t be more thrilled! There is just something about velvet that draws you in. Whether you admires it’s gorgeous metallic sheen or rich luxurious texture, once you wear velvet, you can’t help but fall in love. Today we’re going to share with you some of our favorite trends in velvet that you definitely need to try this Fall!
Want something with the flash of sequins and the smoothness of silk? Then you need some crushed velvet in your life! Unlike traditional velvet, crushed velvet has a crinkled texture to it which emphasizes all the shadows and highlights of the fabric. This results in giving the fabric a unique glistening multi-dimensional appearance. Crushed velvet can be styled to be the main focal point of the outfit or it can also be used as an accent piece when paired with contrasting fabrics.
The retro bell sleeve is all the rage right now and why not kick things up a notch by adding some velvet into the mix? Dress it down for any everyday boho look or dress it up for a special occasion!
Looking for that perfect dress for a holiday party or date night? Why not wear a velvet cocktail dress? Velvet will instantly glam up your look, plus the lovely sheen of the fabric will enhance the natural draping of the dress, making you look utterly unforgettable.
We hope you enjoyed this little sneak peek of whats to come in the following seasons! Are you as excited as we are for velvet this Fall/Winter? Which velvet trend do you love?
Happy Friday everyone! Today on Style Talk we are going to be interviewing Fashion Blogger Alex, of Lex What Wear! We absolutely adore her style and the love the way she writes about fashion. We’re going to be discussing her favorite fashion trends, what inspires her style, and how she started blogging. Plus towards the end of this post we will also be featuring some of the stunning outfits Alex has created for us using She + Sky! Now let’s get started with the interview!
How did you get into blogging?
I started blogging 4 years ago, after dreaming up a few big ideas and doing a lot of research. I had a former co-worker start a blog a few months earlier, who looked to me to start a sister blog. At this point, I had already been envisioning using an online platform for all of my creative endeavors. I accepted the offer to take on Lex What Wear as the sister blog to Lou What Wear in the fall of 2012. Lex What Wear was brought to life, incorporating several similar traits as Lou What Wear, but we knew we would create our own unique voice and vision as time went on. Lex What Wear was intended to serve the people of Lexington, KY through style spotting, local spotlight articles, DIY projects, giveaways and personal style posts. While I was able to achieve all of that, as I grew from a recent college graduate to an ambitious fashion inspired young woman, I decided to pack up and move myself and my blog to New York City. Say hello to a world of change. I grew as an individual which in turn, grew Lex What Wear even more than I could have ever imagined. I had the opportunity to work under several successful designers, attend New York Fashion week a number of times, meet and become friends with a group of like-minded fashion bloggers, travel and learn the fashion industry forwards and backwards. It was a game changer in my life, and to this day, allowing Lex What Wear to stay alive during all of this transformation was one of the best choices I have made. It showed the vulnerable side of a brand new beginning and it opened the door to so many new opportunities. It took a back seat for a while, and it ran with full force some of the time. I liked it and then I hated it, but now I love it. It was such an open book for all of the world (or for whoever was reading) to examine, critique, listen and learn from my experiences. It was bananas! Now I’m residing in Nashville, TN and Lex What Wear loves being back in the south. It feels like home, but this city has so much potential and growth, the vibe is strong and inspiring. I’ve had more time to focus on developing my social accounts and learning to change with technology has been fun yet tiring. I have no doubt that I will continue blogging, serving the audience I still have in Lexington and now have in New York City and Nashville, for a long time. As I see it, blogging is very much apart of who I am.
What is the primary focus of your blog?
I blog for personal pleasure as I absolutely love watching my thoughts and ideas come to life in some form or fashion. But I also love the impact it can have. Lex What Wear focuses on personal style, current trends, shopping guides, beauty tips & reviews, and lifestyle hacks. One day I can blog about a new dress I got for the summer and the next I could blog about how to save on your wedding dress. The spectrum is large, but because the market is so oversaturated with bloggers of all kinds, you have to find a way to best reach your audience. I’ve found that presenting a number of topics to my readers, allows them to relate to something. Relating to someone online can be hard but it’s easier when you focus on what matters and who is listening.
What are some of your favorite fashion trends at the moment?
Currently I am a huge fan of frayed denim shorts (duh), any top that has an exaggerated sleeve or bell sleeve, lace up flats or wedges, off the shoulder tops and dresses, gladiator sandals, and fun / kitchy handbags. These things make me smile that’s how much I love them. If I could wear frayed denim shorts every day, I’d obviously do it!
What is your staple clothing item?
Right now my staple item is a jumpsuit or romper. I won’t lie, i’ve been in one every weekend of this summer so far. Which isn’t very long yet, but I love styling this denim romper I have, like a million different ways. Your options are endless and it never looks like you have on that “same ol’ romper” ever! For work, I can’t live without my lace up flats. I literally live in them during the week.
Fashion can often be influenced by the environment we live in. Describe how it looks where you live and the type of weather you experience there. Do you think this impacts your style? How?
I don’t care where you live, weather impacts style 100 percent. When I experienced my first New York winter and my first New York summer it was like a whole new, very strange world of clothing. In the winter I could be seen looking like a grey Mischelin man walking down the street just so my face didn’t freeze off and in the summer i’d rock a top knot and an easy dress almost daily because of the scorching heat and muggy subway stations. The weather there changed my style enormously. Here in Nashville, it’s pretty hot and cold, literally and figuratively. Now that I get everywhere by car again, it’s a little bit easier to dress for the weather and still look cute. The one thing I love about Nashville style is how undone and very bohemian / rustic it is. Not everywhere you go do you see cowboy boots and a giant hat. The style here is evolving with the growth of the city. I love seeing what both guys and gals have on when we are out on the town here. It’s totally different than anything I expected for Nashville.
Now it’s time to take a look at some fashion! These are all looks Alex has created for us incorporating She + Sky items!(If you’d like to know more about a look just click on the picture and it will take you right to Alex’s blog post on the look.)

WHICH LOOK DO YOU LOVE? LET US KNOW IN THE COMMENTS?
In fashion, we often see trends come and go. Some phase out and never return, while others cycle their way back around. One trend that has successfully made a comeback recently is tie dye. We’ve seen this trend thrive throughout the decades and now it’s back with a modern twist. Here’s a look at some of our favorite contemporary tie dye trends!
MULTICOLOR OMBRE TIE DYE
In this technique the color gradually shifts from one to another. It’s both beautiful to look at and has a refreshing summery vibe!
STRING TIE DYE
This technique creates a grungy design that resembles a continuous black hole but also has a shattered glass look to it.
FOLDED TIE DYE
This look is often only used with a single color. By folding the material it creates a repetitive, yet organic looking design somewhat similar to a print.
TIE DYE OMBRE
This two-toned style combines two tie dye techniques, folded tie dye & ombre. The ombre is at either the top or bottom and shifts into the folded tie dye. The combination of these two different techniques creates a contrast, similar to that of a contrast top.
As students cram for their upcoming finals, we know this means one thing: Graduation season is right around the corner!
For most people, graduation tends to be a major event, as it celebrates the achievement of earning a diploma and the start of the next chapter in life. Celebrating this day with classmates, friends and family, we all know there will be many pictures taken, and below are some of our top pick to make sure your outfit is photo album (and Instagram) ready!
When it comes to graduation dresses, people tend to lean towards demure styles, ranging from casual to semi-formal looks. We don’t recommend micro mini dresses or lavish sequined ball gowns, but the range of dresses in between gives you many options. Most importantly you want to pick something you’re comfortable and confident wearing.
THE CLASSIC LOOK: BLACK & WHITE
Black and white are great go-to colors. White has a clean fresh look to it and black is sleek & classy. Both are timeless, elegant and sophisticated.
FLIRTY & FEM: THE FIT & FLARE
The fit & flare is modest, yet highlights your natural curves. It is fitted on top and then flares out at the waist, creating a universally flattering silhouette.
RETRO CHIC: THE SHIFT DRESS
Shift dresses have no defined waist or structure, but can also be extremely flattering. These dresses draw the attention away from your mid section while also elongating your legs.
LASTLY, LETS TALK ACCESSORIES!
They can vary depending on several factors such as the style, color, and neckline of your dress but here are some items you may want to consider for your big day.
Wedges: Swap out your heels for wedges. These will add some height, pair lovely with your dress and offer longer lasting comfort. *If your are attending an outdoor graduation these will also be a fantastic choice because they will prevent you from sinking into the grass.
Sunglasses: Protect your eyes from the glare with your favorite stylish sunglasses.
Wristwatch: Keep time with this classic, yet functional accessory.
Earrings: If you will be wearing a gown during the ceremony, show your style with some decorative earrings!
Are you graduating or will you be attending a graduation this year? If so, what will you be wearing?
Today we’re going to start with the basics, fashion basics that is. Alone, these pieces may not seem all that thrilling, but it’s when you combine them with other items that they really shine. When you mix basics with interest pieces, such as prints, textures, or bold colors, it changes up the look. Something that once appeared casual may now look dressy, or a piece that was romantic now looks boho. So what does this all mean for you? More outfit options of course! You’ll be able to get multiple looks by just by pairing different items with one another. Sounds amazing right? In this post we are going to discuss a few of our favorite basics. These will work well in any wardrobe and are great staple items to own. Now let’s get started!
TANKS & CAMIS
Sleeveless tops are the perfect layering piece. These little tops can be used throughout the year and there are countless ways to style them!
Here are a few:
Pair it with some some fun bottoms! Perhaps something with a unique texture, color, or pattern.
Layer it with outerwear, like a cardigan or jacket.
Layer under a shirt. Style with transparent materials like crochet, lace & chiffon or simply use it as an undershirt with any top.
THE EVERYDAY TEE
Not only is this item always comfortable to wear, it is extremely versatile as well! With the basic tee, your look can go anywhere from casual & laid back to ready for a night out.
Here are a few outfit combo ideas:
Basic Tee, lace cardigan, pendant necklace, shorts & sandals
Basic Tee, jeans, booties, knit cardigan and a patterned scarf
Basic Tee, midi skirt, statement necklace & pointed flats
Basic Tee, jeans, leather jacket, statement necklace & colored heels
Now let’s discuss outerwear. Cardigans and jackets both fall into this category but that doesn’t mean they function identically. In some instances you may want to use a cardigan and others you may prefer a jacket
For those days when you want some type of cover-up, but a jacket just seems too bulky & heavy, try a cardigan! Cardigans are fantastic completer pieces that provide some structure & warmth but are daintier than a full on jacket.
Cardigans go with practically any look, but we especially love pairing them with sundresses & semi formal looks.
A good jacket that you can wear all year round is a must have in your wardrobe. This staple item will enhance even the most simple of looks and like the cardigan, also functions as a completer piece. The right jacket will add structure to your look as well as flatter your figure.
To add bit of edge or chicness, try pairing your look with a leather jacket.
Does your look need bottoms, but pants feel like a bit too much? Why not try some leggings? Leggings will provide a bit of warmth and coverage to your legs without the thick material that pants have.
Pairs great with tunic tops, oversized tops and above the knee dresses.
Let’s be honest, who doesn’t love denim? Denim can fit any style, be worn in any season and is just classic. It comes in several different washes and finishes, so no matter your style there is something out there for everyone.
Remember there are all kinds of denim items. If denim shorts don’t fit your look try jeans, a denim jacket, or a button-up shirt.
In this post we discussed some of our favorite classic basics, but also keep in mind that basics can vary from person to person. Your basics should help accentuate your personal style, so if you want to incorporate a blazer, skater skirt, etc, go right ahead!
